Memory

Hi, still uploading things I came across whilst researching and making my short film and affected it in someway. Here’s stuff bout memory:

The way my  film deals with the loss of digital memory should be similar to human memory loss, so people can associate and feel more involved with the piece. This following information came up in a Youtube video whilst I was looking for footage for my film. It descibes the 3 main symptoms of A lzheimer’s which is a helpful way of breaking down how I try and show it in my film:

Alzheimer’s-
Demntia plus one of the following 3-

aphasia – difficulty with speech
apaxia – difficulty with motor activity, movement
agnosia – difficulty with recognition

I think all of these areas can be demonstrated in my film and all will be necessary even for the audience to understand and associate with it. I have also been looking at Edward De Bono’s ideas on Lateral thinking, some of which I have put below:

“You cannot dig a hole in a different place by digging the same hole deeper”

This means that trying harder in the same direction may not be as useful as changing direction. Effort in the same direction (approach) will not necessarily succeed.

2. “Lateral Thinking is for changing concepts and perceptions”

With logic you start out with certain ingredients just as in playing chess you start out with given pieces. But what are those pieces? In most real life situations the pieces are not given, we just assume they are there. We assume certain perceptions, certain concepts and certain boundaries. Lateral thinking is concerned not with playing with the existing pieces but with seeking to change those very pieces. Lateral thinking is concerned with the perception part of thinking. This is where we organise the external world into the pieces we can then ‘process’.

3. “The brain as a self-organising information system forms asymmetric patterns. In such systems there is a mathematical need for moving across patterns. The tools and processes of lateral thinking are designed to achieve such ‘lateral’ movement. The tools are based on an understanding of self-organising information systems.”

If things were to go wrong, it would be this lateral thinking that would likely to break down. By having my film and it’s characters “digging the same hole deeper” and struggling with “moving across patterns” I can show the system breaking down.
