Playing!
I have decided to take a different approach to creating this short film than I usually would. The way it will be constructed mostly from my own graphics work and material found online means I can work differently. The term that has come up a lot whilst I’ve been researching has been “play”. This idea seems more prominent for digital artists because of the way we work. The way I have interpreted it and am using it as a process to create. By trying something one way, then quickly adding or taking away an element you can immediately see the results. However more importantly you can undo it instantly if it doesn’t work or if it does, save it and carry on. You can play with your work in this way, advancing it forward, evolving and developing without fear or apprehension. As Robin Doherty puts it,
” The Most Important effect that the digital process has had for me in respect of my art practice is that it has given me the freedom to play beyond set boundaries. The use of the word ‘play’ by no means suggests non-serious or trivial inference: play is fundamental to all art and in the digital process we have found an important and exciting form of this, giving new possibilities of such a fluid and dynamic nature that the importance of which cannot be overstated.”
The way I have been creating and editing this project had directly corresponded to this approach. I’m giving across the impression of messy, loose data disappearing, corrupting and deleting so I have been adding, transforming, effecting and re-timing layers of video and sound. Playing with it, letting it evolve until I’m happy with the results. S
