Development:Storyboard/basic script
After flirting with a different scene initially, as outlined in my last post, I settled on the one describing the pterforming process. Here I will outline the basic visual script, initial story boards and then refined, further developed boards.
Above are the first boards I did for this sequence, as you can see there was need for me to write description and dialogue underneath with this way of doing it. The way I wanted to work evolved though and so I needed change this by lifting it more out of the context of the story so it could work in it’s own right and without the need for description. I lost the connections to the story, they didn’t need to be outlined here, it was to just going to focus on the actual transformation. the extra details and links to the story could be implemented later on if I wanted to continue this further.
Below is a basic visual script of the altered scene, followed by a rough story board of images.
Script –
– Huge, dark empty hall. Tall pillars reach into the darkness. The camera pans down.
– Pan across the faces of statues. Just highlighted from the darkness, it is possible to see pain in their facial expressions.
– In the hall at ground level we can just make out a body laying down. The body lays limp, her face is cheek down at the edge of a puddle, long clumped hair snakes into the water.
-Large circular metal lamp shades cover the roof of a control room. They flicker into life. Three men stand silohuetted with their backs to view, looking out a wide black window. surrounding the window are monitors, dials, instruments and lights.
– A series of close ups of these instuments shows steady readings but gradually rising. An old dial wobbles as it turns and a seismograph draws an inreasingly undulating line.
– In the hall the girl laying on the floor is more scrunched up. A stress vein traces across her temple. One fist is now clenched, the other grasps at her head.
– The control room can be seen reflected in a close up of one of the mens glasses. The ambient light turns a shade of amber before gradually becoming more red. The dial teeters in the red and the seismograph sketches an erratic line.
– The girl is now on hands and knees. We see from above a small black ring, like a tattoo on the base of her neck. The background of the image disappears so it is only her figure against black.
– Close up of her back, two lines spread out of the black circle over her skin down her shoulder blades. The image begins to blur vertically and shake.
– A red siren light spins and flashes in the control room. from the back of the room thee thre silhouettes appear and disappear as it the rotates.
– Two beams of black erupt, like wings out of the lines on her back.
– Multiple monitors in the the control room show the same image, of dust clouds. they switch to an infra red mode. A blurry heat signature fades into view, its the girls figure, standing tall with two wings spreading from her back. As the image become clearer, three other heat signals appear – the statues in the hall begin to glow.
