Development: Control Room

This is the room through the window that we can see from the hall and it is where the process is watched over and monitored . To fit in with the theme of the overall story I’ve tried to give it a rough look, with an old fashioned, almost retro edge. As you can see form the original sketch there was going to be three people in this room but as I begin to think more about editing together the image I preferred the balance and symmetry offered by being able to cut between these two people in very different situations. I also thought about this with the use of colours, the orange and red tones offering contrast with the cold blue and black of the hall. The idea of having the two main images (hall and control) from which to draw the others really helped here. The closeup’s of the screens, seisometer and scientist all have elements and textures lifted from the main one, this helped speed up the production and bring consistency across the images. I think the image of the scientist is technically one of the most successful and for me personally show’s improvements from my previous paintings of people. I would have loved to have spent as much time on the main control room image as I did on the hall painting.  I feel I could go back and improve it more so than any other image but I have to think about the work as a whole too and unfortunately I don’t have an unlimited amount of time.
