Redshift – basic script
REDSHIFT
BASIC SCRIPT
PART 1
Brief outline:
This will take the form of “found” footage, a lost medical research report.
Story covers that of a young girl – 11-12 years old, admitted to a mental institution. She suffers from an unknown condition which one day set in very suddenly whilst she gazed out of a train window. In a field there were pigs being culled, burning in a pile. Since then she has been almost incomprehensible, unable to distinguish between past present a future. She is a very confused girl. Techniques copying the brain into a computer model for detailed mapping and analysis throw up no solution, just that her brain is intensely active. After these are carried out however she shuts down, her mind goes blank and her body stays still. There’s nothing left inside.
PART 2
Brief outline:
This will be a phone conversation between the last human alive and an artificial intelligence. Visually, it will use just a few still images that will be animated in certain aspects.
With humans wiped out for an unknown reason, an A.I existing in the world’s computers and Internet is possibly the last intelligent life form in the universe. However it becomes clear from the conversation that the human harbours ill feeling and grudge towards it, possibly for using up all the last resources to keep itself alive. The conversation centre’s around the A.I wanting the human to bury its original body, before it leaves to exist in the universe. It shows him a video it found that someone made about it, about a mentally ill girl in a hospital; to convince the human it’s genuine.
PART 3
Brief outline:
This will be a more visually and sonically experimental piece of work. It will aim to represent the life form existing at the end of the universe by showing a environment bathed in the red-shifted light and dying stars of an over expanded and cold universe. Before it becomes impossible for the life form to exist any longer its consciousness jumps back in time to it’s earliest self – a moment when it was a young girl travelling on a train, gazing out the window at a field of burning pigs.
